We recommend using K-Lite Standard, which includes MPC-HC, which is a very good player.

This is the recommended variant for the average user. Use this if you don’t know what you need. It already contains everything that you need for playback. The extra components that are included in the larger versions provide no benefit for the majority of users.

Important note: The extra filters mentioned above are not installed by default. We also do not recommend using these outdated filters. They are only included for a tiny group of people who have a reason for using them. We strongly recommend to use the default decoders from the pack. Those are better.
Important note: All the extra functionality included in Mega is only useful for a small group of people. It does not provide playback capability for any additional audio or video formats. If you are only interested in playback, then Full version is already enough for you.
Update
Additional updates for the latest version of the codec pack.
This is not a stand-alone installer. This update requires that the latest version of Basic/Standard/Full/Mega is already installed.
Beta versions contain the latest updates and improvements, but they have not yet been tested as well as normal releases.

Мега набор предназначен не для обычных юзеров. В дополнение к полному набору, в него включены инструменты и кодеки VFW/ACM, с помощью которых пользователь может редактировать и кодировать видеофайлы.
Когда вы выполните загрузку K Lite Pack на свой компьютер, пакет легко устанавливается, позволит вам просматривать самые различные видеоролики и в большинстве случаев, не требует дополнительной настройки. Если потребовалась тонкая настройка, выполнить ее помогают утилиты, такие как Codec Tweak Tool. С помощью нее можно удалить все битые фильтры и кодеки, сбросить настройки к исходным значениям.

Любой человек, читающий эту статью, пользуется ПК. Юзеры периодически просматривают на своем компьютере скачанные видео, слушают любимую музыку, или играют в видео игры, в которых используется и то, и другое. Во всех этих случаях используются кодеки. Но бывает так, что файл не хочет открываться, выдавая ошибку. Возможно, стоит просто скачать нужный кодек.
Существует всего 2 основных вида кодеков: видео и аудио. Чем они отличаются, догадаться не трудно. Их принцип работы сильно отличается., но цель одинакова – максимально уменьшить размер файла. Если мы говорим о видео, кодек пытается разбить видео поток на отдельные кадры, а затем упростить их. Для этого он ищет сходства между пикселями и создает счетчик повторения. Проще говоря, запоминает одну точку, ищет похожие, кодирует их и запоминает их в контексте главной. Аудио кодек же действует иначе. Он уменьшает скорость звукового потока путем сокращения статической и психоакустической избыточности звуков. Говоря простым языком, просто кодирует аудио дорожку таким образом, чтобы она весила как можно меньше, сохраняя все звуки.

У каждого файла есть свой формат (txt, jpg, exe, tiff, gif и другие). ПК может уметь, или не уметь читать какой-либо формат файла. K-Lite Codec Pack для windows 7 – это то, что позволяет компьютеру работать с множество форматами. Стандартные кодеки встроены в компьютер изначально, но некоторые форматы ПК просто не распознает, для него это как иностранный язык, который он не знает. В таком случае файл не откроется, а выдаст ошибку. Чаще всего это происходит с аудио и видео файлами. Но этому иностранному языку компьютер можно научить, просто скачав нужный кодек из интернета. Pro Tips
HDR Video Playback
To play such videos you need to use the included MPC-HC player and select MPC Video Renderer or Madvr as the video renderer. These video renderers can automatically send the HDR metadata to your TV when it is HDR capable. Otherwise they will convert the video colors to SDR so you can watch it on a normal monitor/TV.
Note: currently only HDR10 format is supported. Not Dolby Vision.
3D Video
The codec pack contains a plugin for decoding H.264 MVC 3D Video. To properly watch such videos you should use the included MPC-HC player (64-bit version) and select Madvr as the video renderer. Outputting 3D video to your monitor/TV requires Windows 8.x/10 (or Windows 7 with a modern NVIDIA GPU).
Note: playback of SBS (side-by-side) and Top/Bottom 3D video does not have the above requirements. Such videos are actually encoded as 2D video. Your TV should have an option to turn this into 3D.
In case of NVIDIA you must use driver version 418.xx or older. 3D support was removed in newer versions.
Blu-ray
MPC-HC is capable of playing Blu-ray discs. There are just two limitations:
1) It doesn’t support Blu-ray menus. It automatically plays the longest title on the disc. Other titles can be accessed through the Navigate menu of the player.
2) The disc must be decrypted using an external tool. For example AnyDVD HD or Passkey Lite.
